When you are in college you become, by association, a poor college student. We all have felt the struggle time and time again, when we wanted to buy something and unfortunately, we cannot afford it. Now that I am in my 20‘s, the “daddy plan” is over. My parents no longer open their generous wallets to aid my habit. Unless it is my birthday or Christmas, I am pretty much out of luck. Instead of pouting and crossing my arms, I have found many other ways to support my shopping addiction.
Sell, Sell, Sell. When your a shopaholic, you are bound to have a lot of stuff (obviously). When you open that wallet or check that bank account and you see little to nothing, you know its time to say goodbye to old things. Because I go to an all women’s college, selling old clothes, shoes, and accessories are very easy. All I have to do is make one little post on Facebook and BA BAM, the messages come through.
My second money making method is what I like to call “quick employment”. For example, my quick employment is note-taking for one of my college classes. Yes the job is only temporary, but it is a quick and easy way to get money fast. My payments may not be the highest, but they certainly aren’t the lowest!
There comes a time when, sadly, even a shopaholic such as myself, must save a dime to get by. As hard as it is, saving your money after earning it is the best way to guarantee a purchase during your next moment of weakness.
Last week, I was casually walking through a clothing store when at the corner of my eye I saw a beautiful pink v-neck sweater. Of course the sweater was $30.00 and for a college student, that’s pretty steep for just one item. Luckily, I knew I had saved most of the money from my previous note-taking payment. Without hesitation I grabbed the sweater in my size and proudly purchased it that day. Such a happy ending right? Wrong! Now the struggle of having little money is with me again and I must return to saving, selling, and quick employment.
Fortunately, the bitter moment passes and I carry on with the day and my brand new pink sweater.
Tune in for next week’s post: “Traveling Through the Infamous Amazon”
